A M King Completes Abw Confectionery Distribution Center Near Atlanta

Kennesaw, GA–A M King, an integrated Design-Build company, announced today that it has completed the renovation and expansion of a distribution center owned by Atlanta Bonded Warehouse Corporation (ABW). The project will provide additional high-quality, food-grade warehouse space to help ABW meet the increasing storage demands of current and new confectionary clients requiring temperature-controlled storage and handling services.

A M King constructed a new,168,585-square-foot space that is fully-racked to 40 feet with 30,974 pallet positions. The scope of work includes a complete re-roof of the existing warehouse and construction of two mezzanines (5,683-square-feet) and a small office area (536-square-feet). The project also covered 7.45 acres of site improvements such as 120,000-square-feet of new exterior concrete pavement, upgrade of campus utilities and development of an innovative underground retention system with a 67,602cf capacity. The building expansion consists of a structural steel edifice with a 4-inch IMP (insulated metal panel) metal skin and an 80-mil TPO roof membrane designed to FM global standards. Interior work included installation of 9-inch thick monolithic traprock shrinkage-compensating concrete slabs and LED high bay light fixtures.

“A M King answered challenges such as unsuitable soils, storm water management and accommodation of trailer parking during construction, while allowing ABW to successfully maintain 24/7 operations,” says A M King Vice President Dan Crist.
